The first three decades of my life were over before I discovered that drawing, painting, and generally transforming ordinary objects into something more useful or beautiful makes me absurdly happy! Once that discovery occurred however, my life has been all about ART, ART, ART… a day just doesn’t feel complete if I haven’t created something.
I enjoy portraying the personalities of animals and imagining what they might be thinking. Often, I feel compelled to draw inanimate objects too (such as a well-used teapot, a worn pair of tap shoes, or a vintage car with many miles on it). To me, these things have a beauty and soulfulness all their own. In a way, they remind me to strive to live each day to the fullest.
Without a formal art background, I have gradually progressed from experimenting with crayons to pastels, to acrylic paint, and finally to oil paint. Workshops taken from Nancy Willis and Camille Przewodek, along with innumerable YouTube videos and online art courses, have gently guided the course of my art journey. I am honored to be a student of local Napa artist, Michael Fitzpatrick, who continues to help me develop a “style”. Perhaps even more than creating art, it’s the people I’ve met and friends I’ve made along the way that make this life so enjoyable.
