John has been drawing and painting since early childhood and remembers sketching and drawing instead of working on his required schoolwork. Although Art was always a favorite subject, he also discovered that he had a very strong aptitude for mathematics.
While at college he studied both Art and Mathematics. During his college days, he worked at Knott’s Berry Farm as a pastel portrait artist and continues to get many commissions for portraits. After struggling to find meaningful work in commercial art, he returned to school to pursue a degree in Architecture which turned out to be a satisfying career for him. He has been practicing architecture for over 35 years, most of which has been in Napa Valley.
As a supplement to his architecture business, he offered illustration services to developers and other architects which utilized his artistic skills in another way. John has found the local scenery to be very inspiring and has expanded his artistic interest to painting vineyard scenes and also does some occasional wine label design.
In addition to Art and Architecture, John developed a passion for winemaking. He and his wife Cyndi have a small vineyard in Napa Valley and make a Bordeaux style red blend.
