Jean Cullinane is a traditional, representational oil painter who portrays intimate looks at nature.
Starting with a canvas toned with warm, strong color Jean uses layers of oil paint in thin glazes; some areas of each painting may have as many as thirty layers while other areas have only two to three layers. Cluster Series: Pears; started with thirty – forty photos taken in an orchard. Selecting and combining images, working in small sketches, the final composition allows for movement, uses strong values and has a rich color palette with contrasts of textures.
