My work explores atmosphere, light and water. Inspired by Northern California’s natural beauty and soft colors from the rolling vineyards, open skies and coastal fog, l try to invoke a sense of serenity and calm. When I’m painting is when I feel the most at peace. I like to capture not only what is seen, but what is felt – the warmth of the afternoon sun, the coolness of the deep blue water or the hush of open space. I invite you to pause, breathe and connect with the beauty that surrounds us
I grew up with two older brothers who were always fighting. I was the peacekeeper. My mom called me “no waves Robin” because I didn’t like the arguing. We lived on a ranch, so I found my escape riding my horse in the country. I don’t have a horse now but I still find peace and calm out in nature.
I can’t imagine my life without art of one sort or another. After a semester of art school, I walked away from painting for 25 years, while raising a family. I was weaving, making ceramics and dabbling with photography until I eventually found my way back to painting. I’m a self taught artist, although I’ve studied with some of the best artists around me, such as Michael Fitzpatrick, Beverly Wilson and Jessel Miller. I’m a frequent traveler, but otherwise I live and paint in the beautiful Napa Valley on Atlas Peak.
